Bio
Kathy Christian was born in Ft Campbell KY in 1955. She worked in the field of Human Recourses for over 30 years and retired in Feb 2020. In July that year she picked up a paint brush and began teaching herself how to paint. In the first year of painting, she mostly focused on painting landscapes and florals in acrylic. In her second year of painting, she taught herself to paint pastels which allow her to bring a moodiness to her paintings that she and others are drawn to. In the last year, she has expanded her work to include mixed media which allows for the creation of a different style that she is developing. She enjoys the experimental nature of using acrylic, ink, collage, and charcoal etc. to develop the feeling that she is in search of in her work. She also enjoys exploring the mixture of many mediums to develop texture, depth and unusual points of interest which are different than what can be achieved with a single medium. She also is often found in her studio using a variety of tools & brushes, including her fingers to create marks and the texture that she is thinks the painting needs.
From the beginning of this journey, she has been given continuous affirmations from her many friends which initially drove her desire to keep painting. She is extremely prolific which led to the fast development of her skill level as a new artist. She began to sell her artwork to the public in May 2022 when she presented garden themed paintings at the “Locust Grove Gardner’s Fair”. Oct 2022 she participated in the “Belknap Fall Festival”. Nov 2022 she was invited as a guest artist to the “Louisville Artisan Guild’s Fine Art and Crafts Showcase”. She has since become a juried member of the Louisville Artisan Guild. In Dec 2022 she participated in “WinterFair”.
This year she has participated in the following: Feb” Women’s Club of Newburg Arts and Crafts Show”, Newburg, IN; April in “Cherokee Triangle” Louisville, KY showing Mixed Media; May “Locust Grove Gardner’s Fair”; June “Arts on the Green” Crestwood, KY where she won the Blue Ribbon for Best Mixed Media Artist.
Kathy is currently represented by two Galleries in the State of KY: Art House, Lexington, KY and Gallery 104, Crestwood, KY. She is also a member of Louisville Artisan Guild, Louisville Visual Arts Association and Art Association of Oldham County.
